A BER (Building Energy Rating) is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance. The label is based on a scale of A - The most energy efficient homes - to G the least energy efficient. An example of a BER can be found here.
Why do I Need a BER certificate?
It's the law!
All new homes where planning permission was applied for on or after the 1st of January 2007 must have a BER. Also all homes for sale or rent after 1st January 2009 - including homes when not for sale, must have a BER before they are occupied.
